All I want for Christmas...

Brantley reporting here...Mommy & Daddy are gearing up for the holidays and today we spent the afternoon touring the local stores. While wandering for new boots and jeans for Mommy, I was able to catch some shut-eye, but also got a few sneak peeks as to all the latest and greatest toys out there. I want it ALL! I've been extra good this year...I am still working on the "playing nice" with Lucky, but hey I am only 1, so I deserve a break.

At 14 months, I am 24.6 lbs and starting to use the potty (but only at night before bathtime). I wear anything size wise from 9 months to 12 months and even some 18 month things (although they make my butt look big), therefore my apparel is pretty well stocked (unless you find more cute Gator or G. Harvey outfits). Mommy & Daddy are working on making a backyard haven for me, since I love outside. Below is my 2011 Wishlist. You can also ask Mommy & Daddy for other ideas.

I also want to mention, I would like you to put a good word in with the Tooth Fairy and explain to her I need some more teeth (and preferably not all in 1 shot...spread them out a little, but still please give some more). I want steak and I can not have that yet since I still do not have enough teeth....

Brantley's Wishlist:

More Teeth!!

Leapfrog Tag Pen

Storage Case for Tag

Good Night Scout Book

Leapfrog Cook n Play Potsy

Books for Tag
Wooden Puzzles like this or this

Fix & Learn Speedy

Bubble Mower

I need to think some more...or explore the Toy aisle tomorrow while we go food shopping..I'll get back to you on this...Thanks in advance!

Brantley's 1st Year Photos & Family Photos

This past weekend, we got together with Valerie Dickens Photography to do our new tradition of yearly family photos and then also get some pictures of B for his 1st year.

You can look at a slideshow of them: Here

Shots, Shots &...

...more Shots for Brantley. Yesterday, Brantley had his one year check-up with Dr. O. As expected, B was happy the entire time, showing off his walking, crawling and grabbing skills. He even showed the nurses and Dr. O how he replaces the bottle cap when he is done.

His 1 year stats are 22 lbs and 29.5-30 inches (he was wiggling for the nurse). Once again not really packing on the weight, but growing in height. Over the weekend, he spent some time with 18 month old twins and was taller than 1 of them and the same height as the other.

He is surpassing all other milestones and actually has a good vocabulary already. Even though is not fully walk by himself yet, Dr. O says he has everything there to walk and will walk in his own time...walking to him is just not a priority (although I think both Daddy & I are hoping to see him walk soon).

After visiting with the doctor for a while, it was time for the dreaded shot time.
This visit B got 4 shots! I thought they were kidding at first, but then the nurses came in with 2 each. Since everyone knows he is a strong boy, they had 1 nurse for each leg and 2 shots per a leg and third nurse to help hold his leg straight and put the bandaids on. Thankfully, he was a trooper and only cried during the actual shot. As soon as they were done, he drank his milk and was fine within minutes laughing and wanting to go play.

Unfortunately, he goes back in 2 weeks for the remaining 2 shots and then will not have to worry about shots for a while. I'm glad he did well with the shots...must mean he takes after Husby in the pain category.

Our Little Stander

Brantley recent new feat is his desire to be stood up and lean on something. This can be the coffee table, where he attempts to mouth the edge of it or reach for the laptop and/or mouse or he uses one if his playmat toys as a standing ledge. Husby will hold him up and he will grab onto the ring (where the toys dangle off of) and hold on or lean on it. He has been trying to stand in our laps for some time, but this is new that he will do it on the floor. He becomes very angry with us if we do not fulfill his wishes and let him stand, but he is still not quite steady, so we must brace him and watch him like a hawk so he does not fall.

He also loves to be standing hold our fingers and then quickly squat down. If you pull him back up he laughs and giggles like it is a game. He then will continue to do these squats. It is hilarious to watch, especially with all the funny sounds and facial expressions he makes, but becomes tiring fast. His fascination with mirrors has grown to be a great mid-day break from his crankiness. He will stare into the mirror at himself for sometime in complete silence and awe. Last night, he sat on the floor in front of a picture frame we have our Christmas photo in, just cooing and laughing. It was a great occupying tool, but definitely something out of the ordinary.

Although the soothie pacifier never really took hold in our house, B is starting to use a pacifier around bedtime for short time periods. Lately he has been falling asleep at a decent hour to only wake up an hour or two later. Some of the issue is the fact that he moves in his sleep and sometimes ends up rolling himself over to his back. I think he becomes frustrated since he still has not fully mastered rolling from his back to his belly, so then he wakes up and starts crying. Once he is awake, he *expects* Husby or I to either play with him or give him another bottle. Typically we try the bottle route, which quickly turns into volcano baby since he really does not need anymore food in his little belly. A few nights ago, I experimented with another type of pacifier we had. He sucked on it for a while and then drifted off to slumberland. Unfortunately, once he gets into his crib, out pops the pacifier and if he was not fully out, then he reawakens. I wish we could teach him to take the pacifier a bit better at night, but then again I hope he never really becomes fully attached to the pacifier since they can cause more orthodontic damage in the long run and are hard to remove from a child as they age.

In some respects, I think his teeth may be bothering him, since he seems to stick EVERYTHING into his little mouth (his fists, the burpcloths, bibs, stuffed animals, teether toys, Sophie the Giraffe, our fingers, the dog's ear, the coffee table ledge...the list goes on...if it is something he can get his hands on, it is likely going in his mouth). We have yet to see any notions of teeth, but we are still a month or two early for that.

This weekend, we bought him a Fisher Price Play n Learn Puppy. Although it is half his size, he seems to like to hit the bottoms to hear it sing and talk. He plays the Baby Einstein turtle over and over, so to prevent us from losing our sanity, we introduced another sound toy (if I hear the Baby E melody anymore, I might lose it). For Valentine's Day, (yes, I know it is the Hallmark holiday and typically I do not celebrate it) I found B the Cooper doll and first book. Supposedly, Mr. Cooper will respond to you as you read his story, so I figured this may be a great experience to incorporate interaction with reading for B. Verdict is still out on it, so check back in a few weeks.

In other news, life is once again on the busy upswing here. Husby will be on 2 business trips back to back starting this Saturday. First stop is an Expo & Trade Show in Vegas (don't you feel bad for him) where he will be from Saturday until Thursday. On Friday, we will be traveling to Miami because on Saturday, I will graduate with my Master's (woohoo!). Then Sunday is Superbowl (we will be rooting for the commercials) and Monday morning he is off again to Ohio to hopefully return Wednesday afternoon. It will be a rough few days, but we shall persevere. I am praying there are no weather delays which may ruin our plans, but we shall see. I am looking forward to our minivacay for my graduation in Miami since we do not have any more travel planned until end of March. By the end of this year, B will be a seasoned traveler between trips to both grandmas, a trip to Louisiana for a wedding, a trip to Boston for another wedding and a possible travel to Iowa to see some family.

All I want for Christmas...

Mommy and Daddy are super busy nowadays between taking care of me, our home, my puppies, and other odds and ends around here. I figured I would take this opportunity to write Santa my Christmas wish list (that way Momm and Daddy cannot edit it down to all boring stuff). Thanksgiving is next week and I hear it is going to be a feast (but I'm sure I won't be getting anything).

My Christmas List:

  • Burpcloths- I love to snuggle my burpcloths! Mommy and Daddy say I "go through them like water"...whatever that means.
  • Sophie Teether- I am all for simplicity just like Mommy & Daddy...but Mommy's friends told her I need this when I start teething because it soothes my gums. I am already having issues with my gums and since I do not hold on to anything at any greath lengths, Mommy bought me a Razberry teether pacifier. I like it, except it is too big for my little mouth...however, I am a drooling machine and using all the bibs in my drawer (Santa, you really need to send burpcloths if this drooling is going to continue)
  • Plush Turtle Ballpit-This looks like a fun playtime toy...plus I can probably throw these balls for my Lucky dog soon....I know he loves to fetch, maybe he'll play fetch with me...
  • Bumbo Play Tray- Mommy & Daddy got me my Bumbo this past weekend and I love it! I love to sit in it and look around while Mommy & Daddy get stuff done, I am asking Santa for the tray so I can play in it and be a bit more secure as I get more wiggly
  • Wubbanub-it's a plush animal & pacifier/soothie at the other end
  • Baby Einstein videos
  • More board books and other children's storybooks for storytime
  • For Mommy: The Jenny McCarthy Book Series...don't laugh, but sometimes during the day, Mommy reads while I nap or lay with her...she likes this author's books because she is brutally honest about life as a Mom and everything that comes with Motherhood...Mommy read Belly Laughs when I was in her tummy, so now she wants: Baby Laughs & Life Laughs.
  • Laundry basket for me to lay & sit in..just kidding...no baskets needed
  • Light bulbs for my 2 special lights...I'm a star afterall...I need the light on me (maybe you could sneak in some colored lights even)-I cannot wait until Mommy & Daddy decorate for Christmas so I can look at all the pretty lights
  • Toys, toys and more toys...
  • Drum set-Daddy wants me to learn drums so we can have "jam sessions", Mommy rolls her eyes...

A Word from Brantley...

I'm a late night party animal. I wake up right when Mommy and Daddy are getting ready to go to bed and then want to stay up partying until the wee hours only to sleep a good portion of the morning.

These last 18 days have definitely been an adjustment. It was a traumatic start to say the least. One minute I was stretching inside of Mommy and the next minute my comfy cushion was gone and Mommy's body was trying evict me. 18 hours later and the doctor was pulling me out and the nice ladies of the hospital were staring at me in amazement and cleaning me off. Then I finally got to see my Mommy & Daddy.

I already have a lot of muscle control with my head and am trying so hard to hold my head up. I think it scares Mommy and Daddy a bit as I love to wiggle and swing my head around like a bobblehead. So far, I love my life and surroundings. I have so many cool toys and things to see. There is my swing, my bouncer, my turtle light and my seahorse and of course my 3 puppies (although only 2 really pay attention to me).

Mommy and Daddy keep taking me to doctor's office. They say I am tongue-tied, but I don't understand. I can cry and scream just fine and I am way too young to be talking just yet, so how can I be tongue-tied? I overheard them talking tonight at dinner and it sounds like Monday I have another Dr. appt. with someone called an ENT and I have to get my tongue cut. I hope it doesn't hurt!

I also am already like Mommy and Daddy. I love going places. I hate my car seat and being strapped in, but I love riding in the car and then my stroller. I love being the center of attention wherever we go. Everyone always comments on me and tells Mommy & Daddy I am cute (I knew I was, but I love hearing it anyway). o far, I have been grocery shopping (man does that take forever), and to places such as Target, Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Mommy's school, the outlets, and of course, the bowling alley. I love going to bowling alley...it reminds me of when I was in Mommy's belly and I tend to snooze while we are there.

On Thursday, I finally get to start hanging out with my new best friend, Mike F. He is going to be watching me part of the week when Mommy goes back to teaching and Daddy is at work. He has puppies similar to mine and there's a girl over there who already calls me Baby Brantley. I'm excited to get to hang with someone else during the day part of the week, and I hear I get Daddy time on Wednesday & Thursday evenings while Mommy is still teaching. I wonder what things Daddy and I will do while Mommy is gone...I think we can be a good duo.

Well I think Mommy is starting to get tired, so time for me to go hangout in my Pack n Play...
